What is a voice trainer?
A voice trainer is a tool that lets a choir member learn their own part of a piece on their own — independently of the next rehearsal. Instead of only singing along in the joint rehearsal, you hear your part on its own, sing along to the moving score at your own pace, and, with the microphone on, get real-time feedback on whether your pitch is right. In Chorilo the voice trainer is built in: the conductor uploads a score file, and practice audio is generated automatically for every part — soprano, alto, tenor, bass — ready for each member in the browser and in the app.
What can the voice trainer in Chorilo do?
- Practice audio per part: From an uploaded score file (MusicXML), each part gets its own practice audio — either just your part or together with the other parts as accompaniment.
- Sing along to the score: The notation scrolls along and a cursor marks the current spot — you sing at your own pace and repeat as often as you like.
- Real-time pitch feedback: With the microphone on, the trainer shows instantly whether you are hitting the note — you see at a glance where it still needs work.
- Voice mixer: Set the volume of each part individually — your part loud and the others quietly in the background, or the other way round.
- Metronome: A switchable metronome track keeps the tempo, especially for tricky rhythms.
- Adjustable tempo and key: Practise difficult passages more slowly and transpose the whole piece when needed.
- In the browser and the app: Practise at the computer or on the go on your phone — the exercises are ready for every member.
Why practise between rehearsals?
Every part secure before rehearsal
When everyone already knows their own part, they arrive prepared — the joint rehearsal stays free for singing together instead of drilling notes.
No music reading required
You don't need to read music: preview, sing along, follow the pitch feedback — that's how anyone learns their part.
At your own pace
Repeat difficult bars as often as you like and practise them more slowly — nobody waits, nobody gets left behind.
New members catch up
Anyone who joins later works through the repertoire independently and settles into the choir faster.

Frequently asked questions about the voice trainer
Do I need to read music to use the voice trainer?
No. You preview your part, sing along to the moving score and follow the pitch feedback. Being able to read music helps but is not required.
How does the voice trainer show whether I'm singing correctly?
With the microphone on, the voice trainer detects your pitch in real time and shows instantly whether you are hitting the note. You can see straight away which passages still need work.
Where do the exercises come from?
The conductor uploads a MusicXML file for a piece. From it Chorilo automatically generates practice audio for each part — on its own or with the remaining parts as accompaniment.
Does the voice trainer work on a phone?
Yes. The voice trainer runs in the browser and in the app for iPhone and Android. Every member practises wherever it suits them.
Can I adjust tempo and key?
Yes. Difficult passages can be practised more slowly, and the piece can be transposed into another key when needed. You can also set the volume of each part in the mixer and add a metronome.
