Edit media caption

What is this?

With the media caption you add context to each photo or video — who is on it, what is shown, where and when it was taken. That is especially valuable for historical recordings or concert footage where details would otherwise be lost.

Captioned media retains its value for posterity. Ten years from now nobody will remember who is in the recording from 2026.

How to edit a caption

1. Open the "Media" area and click the desired album.
2. Click the item to open the detail view.
3. Pick "Edit caption" (pencil icon or three-dot menu).
4. Enter a fitting text — e.g. "Encore after the spring concert, from left: Anna, Bernd, Carla".
5. Click "Save" — the caption appears immediately.

What a good caption contains

• Who is shown? — names of the people
• What is happening? — scene or action
• Where? — place, hall, stage
• When? — date or occasion if not already in the album title

Examples of good captions

• "Final chord at the Christmas concert, town hall, December 22, 2025"
• "Rehearsal weekend March — break on the terrace, in the back: the new soprano group"
• "Award of the Federal Cross of Merit to our choir director Hans Müller, 2024"

Permission

You need Create & edit albums & media to maintain captions. By default choir directors, the board and media administrators have this permission.

Tips

• Caption right after upload — your memory is freshest then.
• Ask older members about old recordings — they often recognize faces that would otherwise be lost.
• Write so it is still understandable in 10 years — no insider abbreviations, prefer spelled-out names and places.
